Week 1 Training Content
Lesson 1: The Points of Articulation (Makharij)
Content: Every Arabic letter has a specific “home” in the throat or mouth. If you don’t start at the right home, the sound will be wrong.
-
The 5 Main Areas: The Throat, The Tongue, The Lips, The Nose (Ghunnah), and The Empty Space in the mouth.
-
Deep Throat Letters: These are the most difficult and come from the bottom of the throat (Hamzah and Haa).
-
Practice Tip: Place your hand on your throat. When you say a deep throat letter, you should feel a vibration at the very bottom.
Lesson 2: Heavy and Light Letters (Tafkheem & Tarqeeq)
Content: Tajweed is all about the “weight” of the letters.
-
The Heavy Seven: Remember the phrase “Khussa Daghtin Qiz” (خ ص ض غ ط ق ظ). These must always be recited with a “full mouth.”
-
The Light Letters: All other letters are “light” and “flat.”
-
Common Mistake: Often students make the letter ‘Seen’ (س) heavy, and it ends up sounding like ‘Sawd’ (ص). Keeping your mouth in a “slight smile” position helps keep letters light.
Lesson 3: The Rules of the Letter Raa’ (ر)
Content: The letter Raa’ is unique—sometimes it’s heavy and sometimes it’s light depending on its vowel.
-
Heavy Raa’: If it has a Fatha ( َ ) or Damma ( ُ ). (Example: Rabb, Rusul).
-
Light Raa’: If it has a Kasra ( ِ ). (Example: Rizq).
-
Advanced Rule: If the Raa’ has a Sukoon, we look at the letter before it to decide its weight.
Lesson 4: The Attributes of Letters (Sifaat)
Content: Sifaat are the “personality traits” of letters.
-
Hams (Breathiness): Letters like ‘Faa’ and ‘Haa’ have a flow of breath when pronounced.
-
Qalqalah (The Echo): As we learned in our previous course, the 5 letters (Qutb Jadin) must echo when they are silent.
-
Shiddah (Strength): Some letters require a complete blockage of sound (like ‘Kaf’ and ‘Ta’).
